Trial 002/01

CRIME SITES

The Trial Chamber decided to sever the charges in the Case 002 Closing Order into a series of trials. The first trial, styled as Case 002/01, focused on:

The movement of the population from Phnom Penh in April 1975 (called Phase I)
The movement of populations within and between other parts of the country between September 1975 and 1977 (Phase II)
The execution of former Khmer Republic soldiers at Tuol Po Chrey from April 1975

JUDICIAL
PROCEEDINGS

Proceedings against Ieng Sary were terminated in March 2013 after his death. Proceedings against Ieng Thirith were terminated in August 2015 following her death. Judgements were therefore only rendered against Nuon Chea and Khieu Samphan.

In Case 002, 3,869 civil parties were admitted.

In Case 002/01, 53 fact witnesses, 5 character witnesses, 31 civil parties, and three experts testified before the Trial Chamber. Three further witnesses testified before the Supreme Court Chamber on appeal.
