Defence request for exclusion of evidence dismissed
In an Order dated 28 July 2009, the Co-Investigating Judges dismiss a request from Ieng Thirith`s Defence team to exclude any evidence or other material which was or may have been obtained by torture.
Admission of Vietnamese film footage as evidence rejected
In a decision dated 29 July 2009 the Trial Chamber rejects a motion from the Co-Prosecutors to submit two segments of film footage as evidence in the trial against Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch.
Summary: 50 first days of the "Duch"-trial
Monday 27 July marked the 50th day of the trial against Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch since its commencement on 30 March 2009. Mr. Kaing is accused of crimes against humanity, war crimes and violation of certain provision in the Cambodian Criminal Code of 1956.
More than 12,000 visitors have attended the Duch trial
On Wednesday, 22 July 2009, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) reached the benchmark of 12,000 visitors in attendance of Case 001 against Kaing Guek Eav, alias Duch since the trial began on 30 March 2009.

Today the Trial Chamber issued a new indicative schedule and list of topics for the period 13 July to 26 August in the trial against Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch. 13 witnesses and 22 Civil Parties will be called to appear in court during this period. Pre-Trial Chamber dismisses Khieu Samphan`s appeals and rejects request for release
In a Decision rendered today, the Pre-Trial Chamber dismissed two appeals from Khieu Samphan against orders issued by the Co-Investigating Judges, one extending his provisional detention and another rejecting a request for his release.

Pre-Trial Chamber rejects Ieng Sary's Appeal against the extension of provisional detention
In a Decision rendered today, the Pre-Trial Chamber dismissed the Appeal against an Order extending the provisional detention of Ieng Sary and rejected a request from the Charged Person to be put in house arrest as a substitute for detention.

I is with the deepest regret that, for personal and family reasons, I must demit my position as International Co-Prosecutor effective 1 September 2009. It has been the greatest privilege of my career to have the opportunity to bring some justice to the victims of the crimes of the Khmer Rouge. I remain convinced that Cambodia’s hopes for a better future lie, in part, on true accountability for crimes.
