Press Release by the International Reserve Co-Investigating Judge

The International Reserve Co-Investigating Judge, Laurent Kasper-Ansermet, disputes all of the confused allegations contained in the press release dated 26 March 2012 by the National Co-Investigating Judge, You Bunleng. 

Clarification of the National Judges of the Pre-Trial Chamber on the Note of Mr. Laurent KASPER-ANSERMET, D38, dated 21 March 2012

In response to the note of the International Reserve Co-Investigating Judge on the return of the documents communicated to the Pre-Trial Chamber by the Office of Administration via the letter No.1094-ECCC/Ad, dated 16 December 2011 and via the letter 1014-ECCC/Ad, dated 19 January 2012 and with regard to the application for disqualification of Judge Prak Kimsan, dated 08 February 2012, filed by the International Reserve Co-Investigating Judge, the national judges of the Pre-Trial Chamber hereby clarify as follows:

Australia Announces New Pledge of AUD 1.61 Million

The Australian Government has announced a new pledge of AUD 1.61 million (approximately US$ 1.73 million) the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). AUD 1 million will be given to the international component and AUD 0.61 million will be given to the national component of the ECCC. The new donation was announced by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Bob Carr, who visited the ECCC on 26 March 2012.

Volunteer Brings More than 6,000 Cambodians to ECCC

69-year-old Mr. Kham Lun, a survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime, is well known among the villagers in his home province of Siem Reap. Since 2009, he has been disseminating information about the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), and has helped bring more than 6,000 visitors to the court.

VSS to organize 1st Regional Forum in 2012 for 150 Civil Parties in Case 002 in Chba Morn Town, Kampong Speu Province

The Victims Support Section (VSS) of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) is holding its first Regional Forum in 2012 for the 150 Civil Parties of Case 002 at TEA SENGHENG Meeting Room, Chba Morn Town, Kampong Speu Province, Friday, 16 March 16 2012 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. (The identities of the Civil Parties are protected).

ECCC Budget for 2012-2013 Published

The budget for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) for 2012 and 2013 has been released and is now available on the ECCC website.

Request for enforcement of sentence

Co-Prosecutors Chea Leang and Andrew Cayley have initiated the enforcement of the sentence in the first case following the final judgment, requesting that Kaing Guek Eav, alias Duch, continue to be held at the ECCC Detention Centre until (1) his participation as a witness in proceedings before the ECCC is no longer necessary, and (2) the co-prosecutors and the Director-General of the General Department of Prisons of the Ministry of Interior agree on an appropriate prison for him to serve the remainder of his sentence.

ECCC Cooperates with Cambodian Media to Disseminate Compilation of Statements of Apologies

In order to make the compilation of statements of apology and acknowledgments of responsibility made by Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch more accessible to the Cambodian public, the ECCC Public Affairs Section has entered into cooperation with several Cambodian newspapers, websites, and radio and TV stations to publish the compilation in full or in summary, free of charge, as a service to their readers and viewers. The distribution of the compilation follows the decision on the appeals in Case 001 pronounced on 3 February 2012, in which the Supreme Court Chamber affirm

Trial Chamber adjourns for judicial recess in Case 002

The Trial Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) today adjourned for a judicial recess, thereby concluding the first Case 002 trial session of 2012. During the recess the Trial Chamber will prepare for the next trial session.  Trial Chamber hearings in Case 002 against the defendants Khieu Samphan, Nuon Chea and Ieng Sary will resume on 12 March 2012.

Germany Provides €1.2 Million to the Victims Support Section of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC)

The Federal Republic of Germany, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed a Letter of Agreement today to provide a further €1.2 Million to the Victims Support Section (VSS) of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) – its fourth donation since the VSS was established in 2008.

Kaing Guek Eav alias Duch Sentenced to Life Imprisonment by the Supreme Court Chamber

The Supreme Court Chamber of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) today sentenced KAING Guek Eav alias Duch to life imprisonment, the maximum sentence available under the law, for crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the 1949 Geneva Conventions.

Statement by Acting Director of the Office of Administration at the town hall meeting with ECCC National staff- 27 January 2012

H.E. Kranh Tony, Acting Director of the Office of Administration, the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, met with all officers and staff of the court’s national side on Friday afternoon, and informed that there would not be fund available to pay their salary beginning from January 2012.
