H.E. Sous Yara, Chairman of Committee for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, Propaganda and Information of the National Assembly, leads a delegation to visit the new office of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia in the morning of 10 February 2023. During the visit, the delegation was warmly welcomed by His Excellency Tony Kranh, Acting Director of the Office of Administration, Mr. Knut Rosandhaug, Deputy Director of the Office of Administration and senior officials of the ECCC.
His Excellency Tony Kranh and Mr. Knut Rosandhaug briefed the delegation on the successful achievements of the ECCC in the trial of former senior Khmer Rouge leaders over the past 16 years, contributing to the preservation of the ECCC on achieving peace, psychological reconciliation of the victims, non-revenge and hatred in the society and the elimination of the culture of impunity in Cambodia.
H.E. Acting Director and Deputy Director of Administration also informed the delegation about the ECCC residual works to be carried out during the next three years from 2023 to 2025, including: monitoring the execution of sentences, reclassification of case files from confidential to public, management and dissemination of comprehensive archives of more than 3 million pages, dissemination and education in the spirit of raising awareness of the ECCC judgment achievement and legacy for the next generation. Mr. Knut Rosandhaug also presented a detailed on ECCC action plan to be completed over the next three years.
His Excellency Sous Yara praised the achievements of the ECCC and stated that these achievements are very important for the education and peace of the whole nation. He added that he fully supported the activities of the ECCC to be completed during the next three years and hoped that there would be cooperation between the ECCC and the Joint Foreign Affairs Committee, International Operations, Media and Information of the National Assembly, in particular, the two delegations also discussed joint cooperation projects to improve legal education, sharing the ECCC's good jurisprudences at the regional level and internationally through the establishment of a digital law library and a wide range of public outreach work.
