Youth: A Study Tour Organized by the ECCC Helps Young Generation Understand the True History of Cambodia

Suy Leng Kea, Youth Leader of Steong Trang District, Kampong Cham Province, led 200 youths and students from Hun Sen Arak Tnaot High School and Hun Sen Peam Koh Sna High School in Stung Trang District to visit the Win Win Memorial, Choeung Ek Genocide Centre and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, March 30, 2023.

The study tour is organized by the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) or the Khmer Rouge Tribunal to help students and youth understand and remember the tragedy of the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime and the trial of crimes committed during that brutal regime.

Suy Leng Kea confirmed that he is really excited to lead the young people to visit today. He added that this program is very important for the next generation to see, remember and learn directly where the most brutal location left by Khmer Rouge regime. He continued that the students and youths also understand clearly the story of the Royal Government of Cambodia in sacrificing to save the country from the genocidal regime, bring peace to the Cambodian people and provide justice to the victims of the Killing Field regime through the setting up the Khmer Rouge tribunal to trial the genocidal regime senior leaders and the most responsible on serious crimes.

Mr. Kea added that he, on behalf of the young people who participated in the study tour today, would like to express his appreciation and gratitude for the win-win policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which has led the country to bring peace and social stability. He also thanked the ECCC for organizing this study tour program for his group to learn and visit the crime scene left over from the Khmer Rouge regime and see the development in Phnom Penh today.

ECCC organizes weekly study tours for students, youth, and the public to promote remembrance and participation in preventing the return of the atrocities such as the Khmer Rouge regime. Since the beginning to 2023, more than half a million national and international public have participated in the study tour under the coordination of the Public Affairs Section of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia.
