Mr. SUONG Sikoeun alias Kung, alias Thorn

Mr. Sikoeun is a retiree, currently residing in Malai in Banteay Meanchey province. He told the Trial Chamber that he went to Paris in 1957 to study French literature. While in Paris he became a member of the Marxist-Leninist Circle. Mr. Sikoeun said he was involved in the establishment of the National United Front of Kampuchea in Beijing in 1970, and became the head of FUNK's information office in Beijing.  He became a full rights member of the Communist Party of Kampuchea in 1971.

Mr. Rochoem Ton alias Phy Phuon.

Mr. Rochoem, who belongs to the Jarai ethnic group, was born in Rattanakiri province, but currently resides in Malai in Banteay Meanchey province. He told the Trial Chamber that he joined the revolutionary movement in 1963.  He explained that he worked with farmer and as a messenger. Laterhe became Pol Pot's bodyguard. After the fall of Phnom Penh he was assigned to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Professor David Chandler

David Chandler is an Emeritus Professor at Monash University, and holds degrees from Harvard, Yale and Michigan Universities.He has authored a number of books relating to the Democratic Kampuchea period and S-21 and was called as an expert in Case 001. Unlike that case, where Professor Chandler testified at length regarding the day-to-day operations of S-21, his testimony in Case 002/01 was instead sought principally for an analysis of the policies that established S-21 and the broad purpose and function of security centres (and S-21 in particular) in Democratic Kampuchea.

Mr. KHIEV Neou

 

Mr. Khiev, a former Buddhist monk, claimed he was derobed in 1975 and sent to work in the Southwest Zone office under the orders of Ta Mok, the late KR military commander. He was questioned on the topic of derobing monks, the practice of religion during the Khmer Rouge and self-criticism sessions. He also answered questions on his recollection of the evacuations, the establishment of cooperatives and his relationship with Ta Mok.

Mr. YUN Kim

Mr. YUN was a commune chief in Kratie, and then later a cooperative chief.

Mr. OEUN Tan

Mr. OUEN is a farmer, currently residing in Samlaut district in Battambang province. He belongs to the Kachok ethnic group Mr. OUEN told the Trial Chamber that he joined the revolutionary movement in March 1968 when he was residing in Andoung Meas district, Ratanakiri province. He said he used to work as a messenger and body guard.

Mr. SAO Sarun

TCW-604, Mr Sao Sarun was born in Kaoh Moueleu Village, Peam Chi Miet Commune, Kaoh Nheaek District, Mondolkiri Province. He does not know his date of birth and suggests he might be around 90 years old. The witness first appeared before the chamber in June 2012 to testify on Case 002. The witness testified for a second time via video link in March 2016. He joined the Communist Party of Kampuchea in 1968 and was appointed district chief three years later. He said the secretary of district 105, Laing, died in a fight in Phnom Penh. The witness heard about the incident through another cadre who was in Phnom Penh at the time and was later sent to S-21.  According to the witness, a few months after the death of Laing, in late 1977, Pol Pot appointed him as the secretary of district 105 at a meeting where Son Sen, Khieu Samphan and Nuon Chea were also present. He explained that during the same meeting they also discussed the war with Vietnam. The Khmer Rouge leaders discussed attacks and incursions into Vietnam. Mr Sao Sarun testified that policies were set by the party and he was not in a position to create his own. According to the witness, in sector 105, wives and children were never arrested along with husbands.

Mr. KHOEM Ngorn

Mr. KHOEM is currently residing in Bourei Cholsar District, Takeo province. He told the Trial Chamber that he used to work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. KREAN is a member of the Kravet ethnic group, and during his testimony he said that he joined the revolutionary movement in 1966 while living in Rattanakiri province. He told that he used to work as messenger for Koy Thuon.

Mr. SALOTH Ban

Mr. SALOTH was the nephew of Pol Pot. He is a retired soldier, currently residing in Malai. During his testimony, Mr. SALOTH told the court that he held the postion assumed the postion as secretary-general at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the fall of Phnom Penh.
