The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), 30 August 2023, organized a study tour for 200 students Peam Ror district, Kampong Prey Veng province to visit the Win Win Memorial, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek Genocide Centre. The program aims to provide the students clearly understand and remember the tragedy of Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge regime, as well as to take action to stop future atrocities.
During the study tour, all students were greeted and explained in detail by the guides the meaning and significance of the Win Win Memorial, the tragedy that took place at the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Choeung Ek Genocide Center. The students were also presented by a Public Affairs Officer of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal on the Achievement of the ECCC obtained from the trials and the residual works that the Chamber is currently conducting.
At the end of the visit, the students are expected to gain a wealth of information and knowledge about the trial works at the ECCC, the brutal torture and massacre histories on Cambodians under the Democratic Kampuchea regime, and the sacrifices made by the Royal Government of Cambodia in liberating the country from that genocidal regime.
The teachers appreciated the Win-Win policy of the Royal Government of Cambodia, which led the country to bring peace and social stability. They also thank the ECCC for organizing the program so that youth could understand, visit the crime scenes left over from the Khmer Rouge regime and see the development in Phnom Penh today.
The weekly ECCC outreach study tour, coordinated and lead by the Public Affairs Section is conducted for students, young people, and the general public seeks to raise awareness about the atrocities committed by the Khmer Rouge regime. AS more than 600,000 members of the national and international public have taken part in outreach study tours since 2009 until the present day, 2023, with the Public Affairs Section of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal coordinating them.
