Former Khmer Rouge minister Ieng Thirith was released on 16 September from the detention facility of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia under conditions, following a ruling by the President of the ECCC’s Supreme Court Chamber. Three days earlier, on 13 September, the Trial Chamber had reaffirmed its earlier ruling that Ieng Thirith is unfit to stand trial due to her dementia, most likely Alzheimer’s disease, after having considered the medical experts’ conclusions and legal arguments from all parties during a two-days hearing in August.

This special edition of the Court Report features some Frequently Asked Questions on her release and fitness to stand trial, as well as and an overview of the proceedings in Case 002 concerning 4th accused Ieng Thirith since her arrest in 2007 until her release from pre-trial detention in September 2012.
